The Rayat Shikshan Sanstha founded by Padmabhushan Dr. Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil has a truly long tradition of over hundred years. Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil proliferated education in the remote and rural zones of Maharashtra with four principles of freedom, equality, dignity, and self help. He was inspired by the grand thoughts and works of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Mahatma Phule and RajarshiShahu Maharaj. He opened several primary schools, secondary schools and higher education institutes with the reformers of his times who were keen on taking education to the doorsteps of the socially disadvantaged social groups, farmers, landless labourers and other hard working people in the rural areas. One such institute is the Dada Patil Mahavidyalaya at Karjat, which is known as the newest Pandhari of Maharashtra.

Established way back in 1964, with the cooperation of fellow Dalit friend Mr. Dada Patil. this college has carved its name today. The number of students has risen to 2588 today. It was here in this drought-prone area, only a few students used to get their degree. Revered Dada Patil and Padmabhushan Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil did a herculean task of lending pencils to the children of farmers and laborers in this drought-prone area encompassing Karmala, Jamkhed, Kada-Ashti and Karjat tehsils. The duo recognized the need to give thoughts to the brains and work to the hands of our youth to shape modern India. Dada Patil Mahavidyalaya has been marching forward and forward firmly in light of Karmaveer’s philosophy of education through self-help and elevating the dignity of labour.

Today,the college offers courses right from grade XI to the research level. The college offers Higher Secondary courses and there are quite a good number of Research Centers of Higher Education Various departments offer good degrees inthe faculties of Arts, Commerce. Science. B.B.A (CA), B.C.S., and B. Voc The departments of Marathi, Hindi, English, Economics, History. Geography, Chemistry. Botany, Zoology and Physics impart post-graduate courses. The department of Hindi. Physics and Botany have been recognized as Research centers to run Ph.D. programmes.

The ‘New National Education Policy 2020’ has put forward the formula of ‘Interdisciplinary Education’, ‘Value Education’ and ‘Skill Education’. The college, identifying the steps of time, has put forward the objective that every passing student should acquire at least one skill from 38 short term career-oriented courses. To empower our students for the competitive scenario, the college undertakes events and schemes like Avishkar of ideas, Kirtan Mahotsav, National Student Army, National Service Scheme, Extracurricular activities, Special Guidance Classes, and various other student-centric activities.

The sports department has made name in the university. The National Student Army (NCC) and the ‘Rayat Military Academy’, the pioneer of the institute, has made a name for itself not only in the institute but also across Maharashtra. The Military Academy has proved that the students from rural areas also possess several research aptitudes. What all they require is a proper guidance and focus. With this intent, the college offers an opportunity to invent students’ innovations through the event Ideacha Abhishkar’ and ‘Patent Sale.” As an outcome, four teachers of the college have obtained national and international patents, five students have been nominated by Savitribai Phule Pune University for the project ‘Home Sanitary Pads Moreover, the university has approved 14 research guides and three centers of doctoral research in the faculty of Arts and Science.

Eco-friendly campus is the asset of the college. It especially aims at keeping the college premises naturally beautiful and clean. We have developed a vermicomposting project in the premises for disposal of waste. There is a biogas project. We regularly conduct green audit, energy audit, environmental audit, and ISO accreditation of the college. The college has received quite a good number of nominations. The college has been successfully conducting ‘Earn and Learn Scheme every year with funds from the Savitribai Phule Pune University Pune to impart the value of self-reliance amongst the students. In addition, the college extended this scheme independently for the benefits of the junior section. Over the last 7 years, total 412 students have availed this scheme.

Memoranda of Understanding are further significant accomplishment of our college. Various departments of the college have the Mot’s signed with various research institutes, NGOs, and companies across Maharashtra. The students are made versatile through exchange of knowledge, campus interviews, research projects, study trips, and extension work through a total of 35 MOU’s.


The ‘Women Empowerment’ initiatives prepare girls for ‘self defense’ and ‘self-reliance’.

The whole campus is under CCTV surveillance. Internally influenced, the number of female students has increased significantly over the last 5 years due to the three-fold convergence of security, peace, and discipline. The college offers well-structured short-term courses; it runs an all accomplished competitive examination guidance center and various departments conduct employment fairs and campus interviews throughout the year to enable students to face the challenges of competitive world and create employment. Today, 729 students have successfully created their own employments and sixty-one students hold prominent positions in diverse fields.

The college requires adequate infrastructural amenities to accomplish the qualitative and constructive development. In this direction, the management has allotted adequate independent space to every department. There is an administrative complex, Arts, Commerce, Science and technology wings, well-equipped laboratories, rich library, two grand indoor stadiums and a hostel building. The college is producing state of the art auditorium named as ‘Sharadabai Pawar Hall’ with the budget of five crore twenty-seven lakh Rupees from the Sanstha’s President Padma Vibhushan Hon. Sharad Chandraji Pawar Saheb. The college plans to launch, I.T. Park Building,” Skill Investment Building’ and ‘Humanities Sciences Building in the days to come. At present, the work of five storied science building is in progress and this building will be known as the first college building with lift in the district.

The president of the Sanstha, Hon. Sharad Chandraji Pawar Saheb, Chairman Dr. Anil Patil Saheb, Vice-Chairman Adv. Bhagirath Shinde Saheb,Member of Managing Council and Chairman of College Development CommitteeHon. Rajendraji Phalke Saheb, General Body Member and popular leader of Karjat-Jamkhed Assembly Constituency. Hon. Rohitdada Pawar, Member of College Development Committee Hon. Ambadasji Pisal, Hon. Bappaji Dhande, Hon. Rajendra Nibalkar have been truly instrumental in taking the college to the peaks of glory. Their guidance and cooperation took the college to the newer heights of development. The college has taken a big leap in qualitative and constructive development today with the selfless contribution of all the fellow Rayat Sevaks.
