About Us
Introduction: The Department of Botany has a vision of creating human values through providing fundamental and applied knowledge of plant sciences among society. The goal is to develop skills and interest of society regarding plant sciences, floristic diversity and research attitude towards botany.
Department of Botany – undergraduate course was established in June 1996 and the post graduate courses started in 2014. It is one of the leading departments of the college in the field of teaching and research in plant sciences. The department is involved in the areas of Taxonomy, Phycology, Mycology and Medicinal Botany. To keep pace with the advances in various aspects of Plant Sciences, the department has introduced short term courses in Organic farming and Botanical Tools and Techniques. The department has undertaken research projects in the areas of Cyanobacteria, Mycology, Medicinal plants and Conservation of plants for which it has received substantial funding from Government funding agencies like UGC and DST. The Department also perceives the Research patent by faculties in the field of Plant sciences. The Department has undertaken a B.Voc course in “Medicinal plant conservation”. The faculty members are actively involved in research and collaborations and contributing to improve the knowledge of Floral diversity of the region.
